-

The 25th Anniversary Celebrations of Gateway College which began with a religious ceremony held in Kandy last year culminated in a Walk and Carnival on the 28th of January in Colombo. The Walk – “A Step towards our Golden Era” organised by Gateway College, Dehiwala was a colourful event that saw the participation of students of all 5 Gateway Colleges. The proceedings began with a cycle parade from Gateway College, Dehiwala to the BMICH Colombo. Thereafter, the Senior students, Alumni, Parents and Staff who gathered at the BMICH proceeded towards Gateway College Colombo. Students of the Primary school joined at different points along the way to walk as one family to join the celebrations at Rajagiriya. The Walk had many floats that showcased the different aspects of the school ranging from its history to sport and music. A highlight of this was the floats of Gateway College, Negombo which carried members of the school choir who brought alive “Applause 25” once again with songs from the famous musicals.

The 25th Anniversary Carnival organised by Gateway, Colombo under the project “Education for All” was held at the Colombo school premises. The fun and festivities began in the morning with a Fair that was also held in the school premises. The Carnival which began at 6.00 pm was a lively event enhanced by the Glam It Up – fashion show organised by Key Stage 1 and the talent show of the seniors that provided an opportunity for many students to display their musical abilities. The variety of rides, games and stalls provided colour and entertainment. The highlights of the event were the music from a professional band and DJ that got many a foot tapping, and the fireworks display that lit up the sky raising the festive mood.

Following a year long celebration that included religious events, staff awards, a tree planting campaign, a musical production, a relay carnival, etc. the Walk and Carnival were a fitting finale to the 25th Anniversary Celebrations.
