ALETHEA SCHOOL CELEBRATES 95 YEARS OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND PROGRESSES FORWARD

Alethea School in Dehiwala, now a part of the CEG Education Group of Schools, celebrated 95 Years of Academic Excellence on the 31st of January 2023. Founded in 1928, the School was one of the last few Private Schools that were granted the Licence of providing the Government Approved National Curriculum in Sri Lanka. During the Schools 95 Years of existence, Alethea School has taught more than 50,000 students representi­ng a multi – cultural ethos and keeping up to its motto of LIVE, GIVE and GROW.

The 95th year milestone was marked with a range of activities designed to commemorat­e the past, celebrate the present and the future of education at Alethea says Dr. Jagath Alwis Chairman Alethea School and CEG Education Holdings. With the new management of the School CEG Education Holdings which is one of the largest Education Conglomera­tes in Sri Lanka will develop this schools to focus on a robust and holistic education model that empowers the child to face the challenges of the future. The School will look at developing its standards of education with the expertise of the CEG Education Holdings group which also owns Wycherley Internatio­nal School Colombo, Gampaha, Modern Montessori Internatio­nal (MMI), ANC Education and ICBT Campus to provide and uplift the standards of the Government Approved National Medium Curriculum in English to students of Sri Lanka.

The School has a proud heritage that has been deeply rooted by the founding Members of the School and keeping in line with their vision we will develop the School in terms of curriculum, facilities and standards to keep the Alethea name and fame flying high with National Medium Education in English medium in Sri Lanka. It is therefore paramount that all stakeholde­rs of Alethea School partner in this critical transforma­tion to meet global

standards in education he said.

Alethea School aims in providing opportunit­ies and easy access to quality education to as many students as possible. Making the dreams a reality, today, Alethea School provides quality education in English to students who wish to follow the government curriculum in English. The school has also recorded significan­t achievemen­ts in academic and non-academic fields while aiming to strike a balance between modern education and traditiona­l values.

To commemorat­e the occasion of Founders’ Day, the school organised multi religious ceremonies by the clergy, invoking blessings on the founders, students and teachers. The event also had Song and Dance items choreograp­hed by the teachers to mark the 95th Founders Day Celebratio­ns in the School.

To mark this historic occasion the Chairman ceremonial­ly declared open the School Hall in memory of one of the late founders of the School – Mrs. Kumari Hapugalle Perera.

Mrs. Buddhika Pathiraja – Principal of Alethea also stated “each year we celebrate our proud history, success and prestige as a leading Government Approved Private School in the country. But, 2023, is of great significan­ce as Alethea School completes 95 years since its inception and also a new dimension with CEG Education Holdings taking over the ownership of the School to take it to new heights in education. Throughout the near century, Alethea has grown in prestige and has been committed to making a difference in the field of education. The success behind it is the inspiratio­nal leadership and the guidance of its Founders, Brig. S D N Hapugalle, Catherine N Hapugalle, Alethea Hapugalle, D N Hapugalle, Rohan Hapugalle, D Hapugalle, A E Preston, Marie Musaeus Higgins & Kumari Hapugalle. Their vision has been to give the children of our country an education which can produce global citizens who can reshape the future of our country”.

As we celebrate our proud history, honouring our 95 years Alethea School continues to aspire for the best in the days yet to come.
