Fate of sri lankan students on medical education abroad

- Professor T.B Abeysinghe

There is an important point to point out to children as well as parents. That is, when a child goes abroad, the first priority should be the safety of the child. At this time, when there is a severe war situation based on the Ukraine-Russia war, the war heat is also present in the countries bordering it or involved in the war, such as Russia, Gorgia, Belarus, and Latvia. Therefore, the experts of the above countries say that it is extremely dangerous for foreign students to study in countries like Georgia, Belarus, Russia and Latvia. Therefore, Sri Lankan children should be careful not to go for medical education in countries like Russia, Belarus, Georgia.

Today the best medical college and universities for medical education are located in the countries like UK and USA. The fees of medical universities in those countries are around USD 1,000,000$ though you can get excellent and valuable education from them. Very few SriLankan Students are studying in these medical colleges, but those medical colleges are not registered with SriLankan Medical Council. It’s because they consider that the registration of Sri Lankan Medical Council is unnecessary and they don’t even bother to apply for it. Indeed, who would want to live with such advanced medical education in Sri Lanka, which has fallen into a precipice in all aspects today? Moreover, they are not impressed or transparent about the registration of foreign medical colleges in the Sri Lanka Medical Council. In fact, according to the Medical Council of Sri Lanka there has been no classification made regarding the minimum facilities required to register for a medical college. The Sri Lanka Medical Council takes care of them at their own discretion, this is a major damage to the medical field at Sri Lanka and this arbitrary act is done by the Medical Council of the whole world only in the Sri Lankan Medical Council. Taking advantage of this dark process the Sri Lankan black market businessmen have illegally obtained the registration of the Sri Lankan Medical Council, which has the lowest educational level in the world and using it as a weapon to cheat Sri Lankan students and parents and send Sri Lankan students to third class universities in Belarus and the lowest country in the world received. Indeed, although Sri Lanka is weak today in all aspects, Sri Lanka medical education is still strong. Similarly, one can get the best medical education from a Medical Colleges located in SAARC countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lankan student at a very low cost on a concessional basis. While studying in the third-class medical colleges in

Russia and Belorussia the students suffer from the fact that they do not get a chance to get a good medical education, as well as in terms of the language, the cold climate and the high prices of the food. Roughly the monthly expenses in countries like Russia and Belarus costs between 800-1000$.Winter clothes costs about USD1500$.Specially, when traveling to Russia or Belarus from Sri Lanka, the duration will be between 20-30hrs and it costs around LKR Rs.600,000. But, traveling to Bangladesh or Nepal, the duration will be 3hrs and it costs around LKR Rs.150,000.

Thus, the total cost of studying medicine in Russia and Belarus for a period of 6 years will be about one hundred and twenty thousand US dollars. It is about 44,500,000 rupees in Sri Lankan currency. Why spend so much money and suffer for 7 years and study an education that has no value and quality? Therefore, the best choice for Sri Lankan students studying abroad should be to study in a medical school in a SAARC region and only medical degree students studying in SAARC countries are invited to study for free. Specialised medical education in developed countries of the world today. Being able to get a job at a salary of 2- 3 million Sri Lankan Rupees, being able to get a world-class medical education, being able to enjoy the dual climate of our country, and the monthly cost of living is around 5,100, and being a neighbouring country, pursuing higher education from a medical college located in the

SAARC region is a very good investment. It is not at all necessary to consider the registration of the Sri Lanka Medical Council and the Sri Lanka Medical Council of any country in the world does not make a specialty of a registered doctor. There are also many ways to get registered in the Medical Council of Sri Lanka if someone wants to study in a SAARC region country. According to the above, it is best for Sri Lankan students to choose a medical college located in the SAARC region for their medical education.
