The Multifaceted Gem: Siyane Toastmasters Club

- TM Roshini Perera Vice President Membership | Siyane Toastmasters Club

Effective communication and leadership skills add value to a person and enrich the society around him. That is the primary objective of a Toastmasters Club. Siyane Toastmasters Club has been effectively fulfilling that objective for over a decade as a prominent Toastmasters Club in Sri Lanka and District 82. The number of people whose lives and careers were polished by the influence of this remarkable club is immense. The club supports its members in every aspect of the Toastmasters' journey. Especially the support and encouragement provided to the speakers during contest season through the “Siyane Boot Camp” is one unique feature of the Siyane Toastmasters Club. This programme has successfully taken the members to the division stage and beyond for several consecutive years.

Recently, Siyane Toastmasters Club widened its horizons by initiating several other programmes to raise the quality and standards of the members. These activities, directly and indirectly, add value to the Toastmasters training. These initiatives were executed by utilising the club members' diverse skills and talents.

That is how the Siyane Western Dancing Programme came to life in October 2022, led by TM Gamunu Jayasundara. This programme is conducted for beginners to train them in Ballroom dancing, which will benefit them in every aspect of their social life while adding another jewel to their crowns. Parallel to the dancing programme, “Siyane Sports Fiesta” was organised by TM Pubudu Ginige to enhance the physical fitness of the members.

As the first step, an Indoor Cricket Match was scheduled at Makro, Gampaha. This programme has been extended to weekly Badminton sessions and once-a-month Cricket and Badminton matches within the club.

Additionally, to improve the English writing skills of the members, the "Tales Around the Fire" short story competition was introduced by TM Roshini Perera. The objective of this event was to enhance the quality of the speech scripts and improve the general language skills of Siyane members. A series of workshops related to fiction writing was conducted to help the contestants, and it created a good impact. The entries are planned to be published at the end of the contest.

Just like a gem sparkles better when the number of facets is high, we at Siyane Toastmasters believe that Toastmasters can shine brighter when their social, creative, and recreational skills are cut and polished. Also, these activities add countless value to their investment in being a member of this great organisation.
