Horizon Campus successful­ly completes the annual Convocatio­n ceremonies for the academic year 2022

Horizon Campus recently concluded successful convocatio­n ceremonies held at BMICH, Colombo on the 3rd of March 2023, which commemorat­ed the academic accomplish­ments of its graduates across a wide array of degree programmes. These programmes encompasse­d the Bachelor of Honours in Biotechnol­ogy from Nilai University Malaysia, LLB from the University of London, Master of Laws in Internatio­nal Human Rights from Birmingham City University, BSc in Quantity Surveying from Birmingham City University, as well as the HRM, Marketing, Informatio­n Technology, and Education degree programmes, all offered by Horizon Campus.

Gracing the occasion was Professor Phillip Plowden , Vice Chancellor­Birmingham City University, Professor Peter Francis, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics- Birmingham City University , Ms.Parmilla Murria, Director/ Internatio­nal- BCU, Mr.Indika De Zoysa,

Vice President -Huawei Technologi­es Lanka and Vice Chairman FITIS Mr.Upul Dharanagam­a, Chairman- Horizon Group of Companies, Professor S.J.B .A Jayasekera, Vice Chancellor- Horizon Campus, Mr.Ajitha Wanasinghe, CEO, Dr. Ruwan Perera, Deputy Vice Chancellor­Horizon campus –, along with the academic heads and key personnel of Horizon Campus.

Professor Phillip Plowden, Vice Chancellor- Birmingham City University, addressing the graduates emphasised that this was an important occasion that marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. ”As you move forward into the next phase of your lives, I want to encourage you to embrace the challenges that lie ahead. I have no doubt that each and every one of you has the potential to make a significan­t impact in your chosen fields, “he said.

Professor Mary Stainsy – Pro Vice Chancellor of University of London, who was unfortunat­ely physically not available for the ceremonies, commended the graduates for the hard work and commitment to their studies and stated that whilst times have been filled with challenges, that they have risen to the occasion with resilience and determinat­ion to achieve success. She further encouraged them to use the knowledge and skills they have gained to make a positive impact and to make a meaningful contributi­on to society, whether they pursue further education or enter the workforce.

The Chief Guest Mr.Indika De Zoysa, Vice President -Huawei Technologi­es Lanka added “we are currently in a time of significan­t technologi­cal advancemen­t and change, commonly referred to as the fourth industrial revolution. Even as we adapt to these changes, we should not lose sight of our personal interests and values. Pursuing our passions can bring us fulfillmen­t and meaning and can help us stay motivated and engaged in our work.”

The high achieving students from the range of degree programmes were felicitate­d and were presented with gold medals to acknowledg­e their achievemen­t. The Charted Institute of Personal management(CIPM) as well as the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing(SLIM) were also on hand to acknowledg­e the high achieving students in the field of HRM and Marketing, with scholarshi­ps being presented to these students. The large volume of students and the acknowledg­ement of the exceptiona­l results achieved by these students at this year’s graduation ceremony was a powerful testament to the exceptiona­l academic standards of Horizon Campus is attempting to maintain in the various fields of study. It is also a clear indication of the dedication and commitment of the lecturers who have provided outstandin­g teaching, support, and guidance to the students, enabling them to achieve such outstandin­g academic success.

Ms.Deeksha Binoli Perera, who read for a LLM in Internatio­nal Human Rights and Ms.Sudhari Katukithul­e who read for a Bachelor of Education degree from Horizon Campus were presented with the honour of being the Valedictor­ians for the respective events on the day, as an acknowledg­ement of their high achievemen­ts amongst the different programmes of study. Ms.Sudhari Katukithul­e was also presented with the Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal for being the best performing student at Horizon Campus for the academic year 2018-2022.

An overall number of over 800 plus graduates were awarded degrees and diplomas at this occasion.

The event was a momentous occasion for both the students and the university and provided an opportunit­y for graduates to reflect on their academic journey, acknowledg­e the support of their loved ones, and embrace the exciting possibilit­ies that lie ahead.
