A Proud Sri Lankan team member, behind the success of Singapore Airlines 787-10 Dreamliner

-

On 27th March, 2023 Singapore Boeing 747-10 Dreamliner landed over at the Bandaranaike International Airport for the first time. However only little was known that a proud 41year old Sri Lankan was a key team member, an Aeronautical Engineer by profession was involved in the designing of the rear flap of the Boeing 787 Dream Liner.

Geeshan Chandrasekera was born in June 1979 and had his entire School carrier at Isipathana College. Geeshan’s father Gamini Chandrasekara was an outstanding well-known Sportsman from Isipathana College, leading the College 1st XV Rugby Team way back in 1972. From his small days as a toddler Geeshan showed a keen interest in space toys, collected all types of toy planes and that was not his just his hobby, but it was his mere passion according to his mother Darshini Chandrasekara. More over for his birthdays he used to ask for aero plane cakes from his Mother.

After O/L he got a chance to visit Japan with the family & was there for 2 years. Studied Japanese, while he was In Japan he got greater knowledge of the science behind the Aircrafts. When he was growing he always said he wants to become a Pilot, as parents they discouraged him & made him to become an Engineer like his Grand Father. Mainly as a student he was methodical, completed any job with responsibility. Back again in SL 1997, he got through London A/L, enjoying all his A level subjects especially Physics & Maths. Joined Royal Melbourne Institute for Technology (RMIT) University in Melbourne when he was just 17 years. First, he got through the Diploma, and thereafter got through his Aerospace Degree. Came out as a fully qualified Engineer and his capabilities were recognised by the Dean of the faculty & with his firm Interest on Aeronautical he was offered a job as Engineer at Boeing Company, Australia. Out of many applications Geeshan was selected to join as Aircraft Annalist & Air craft designer. While beginning of his carrier he was involved with many projects including Military Aircrafts to supply to Mc Donald Douglas. Once his team Manager clearly said that Geeshan is an assert for Boeing and out of his team mates many were Jews, Israeli Engineers.

Whilst being involved with Boeing for a few years, the Boeing Management decided to send him for further training to Head Quarters, Seattle for 2 long years. After coming back to Australia fully equipped with Air Craft manufacturing knowledge & he was selected to designed the rear flap for Boeing 787

Dream Liner. Geeshan was fortunate to get his name into the Dream Liner Aircraft manual. Dream liner was rolled out few years ago in Seattle and recognising his special abilities as a member of the manufacturing team the Boeing Company presented him with an amble Gold coin.

Married to an Australian Lady an Architect they have 2 lovely Daughters, Geeshan will definitely have the potential to make many more outstanding professional contributions to the aircraft Industry especially involved in designing & manufacturing of Air crafts in the years ahead.
