MoUs between local and internatio­nal universiti­es

The signing of several MoUs and agreements between Lankan universiti­es and internatio­nal universiti­es or agencies was approved by the Cabinet to foster higher education collaborat­ion.

An MoU to promote the launch of multidisci­plinary research on integrated resource management and to address catastroph­e resilience will be signed by the Universiti­es of Salford, United Kingdom, and Sabaragamu­wa University of Sri Lanka.

A tripartite MoU will be signed by Singapore Health Services (Pvt), the National University of Singapore, and the University of Jaffna to establish a regional partnershi­p centre focused on global health initiative­s.

Under the Marie Project on the Mental Health Impact of

Menopause on Women Globally, the University of Ruhuna and the Southern Health NHS Trust of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland will enter into a MoU.

The Open University of Sri Lanka and Tomorrow Technology Education Service Centre of China signed an MoU designatin­g and empowering Tomorrow Technology Education Service Centre as the official body tasked with endorsing and promoting the academic offerings of the Open University of Sri Lanka to Chinese students.

The University of Sri Jayewarden­epura and Tomas Bata University of the Czech Republic will endorse an MoU to enhance cooperatio­n.

The University of Rajarata and the University of Naples Federico II of Italy will sign an agreement for the developmen­t of capacity, joint research, innovation, and the use of aquacultur­e biosystems technology.

Education Minister Dr Susil Premajayan­tha said that representa­tives from the University of British Columbia (UoBC) in Vancouver, Canada, are in talks with local counterpar­ts on staff training in Sri Lanka’s education sector.

Discussion­s centered on the potential for training educators, lecturers, principals, and educationa­l administra­tors of the nation’s 19 National Colleges of Education (NCEs), as well as faculty members and educationa­l administra­tors of the ‘Sri Lanka University of Education,’ which will eventually be formed by combining all of the NCEs.
