Parliament still waiting for information on all running loans
Parliament is reportedly still waiting on the government to provide information on all foreign and local running loans. At the beginning of December Finance Minister Gillmore Hoefdraad indicated that the State currently has 84 running loans and that a detailed report would soon be presented. Parliament still has not received the report. Legislators on Tuesday once again asked the government to share the information. MP Amzad Abdoel (NDP), chairman of the Finance committee, wanted to know exactly which organizations have given the State a loan, what the exact figures and the interest rates are and how much the government must pay back every month. “We still have not received any information,” said MP Abdoel (NDP). The draft versions of budgets gives an indication of the government’s debts. As of December 31, the entire national debt will be SRD 9.3 billion. MP Abdoel deems it important to the details. The SRD 9.3 billion figure is based on a prognosis. The legislator also wants to know how the future loans for the Dalian IV Project and Telesur’s broadband project which accumulate to $350 million will influence the running loans. MP Rossellie Cotino (NDP) also demanded more information on the government’s loan policy. MP Asiskumar Gajadien (VHP) from the opposition expressed his discontent with the government’s delay in providing important information. He also complained that the Auditor’s Office has not published any reports. “I have never seen a report that outlines all of the running loans,” said MP Gajadien.
