Female student reported missing

-

A female student went missing on Monday night. Her relatives on Tuesday filled out a missing persons report at the Nieuwe Haven Police Station.

Police Chief Guno Roosenhoff confirmed the reports and told Times of Suriname that the student left home for school on Monday. It is suspected that there were exams at school. When she did not return home, her relatives kept waiting and notified the police the next day. The car which the girl drove to school has reportedly been set ablaze. The wreckage was located along the Groenhartweg on Tuesday morning. Investigators are reportedly looking for clues in the wreckage.

Roosenhoff pointed out that investigators are asking questions in the girl’s neighborhood and school. Investigators want to find out if the girl showed up for classes on Monday and if anybody has seen her in the area where the car was found. Relatives told the police that the girl does not go out and that she always stays at home. It is not clear if she was the victim of a carjacking. It is still not clear why the car was set on fire. Roosenhoff pointed out that a large scale investigation has been launched to find the missing student. The investigation has been handed over to the Capital Offences Department. Roosenhoff is asking anybody who has information about this case to share it with the police.
