AZP nurses to receive plot
425 nurses from the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) on May 27 were told that they would receive a plot at the Zuster Project located at Jagtlust in the Commewijne District. The nurses had gathered in the auditorium of the AZP when MP Silvana Afonsoewa gave a speech. MP Afonsoewa who is a former nurse is the initiator of the entire project.
568 nurses from the AZP were given the opportunity to sign up for the project in 2016. There were certain requirements for those who wanted to be selected. The nurses were told that in order to be selected they must not own a plot, they must not be students and they also must be unencumbered.
There are reportedly 1,000 plots at the Zuster Project Jagtlust and each plot covers about 375 square meters. All plots will be connected to the water and electricity network and roads will also be constructed. The nurses were called one by one and they given a form before picking a card with the number of the plot out of a bowl. Those who were selected, read the contract, filled in and signed the form immediately. The signed contract was then handed over to the contractor or land surveyor who were also present. Construction at this housing project for nurses will take place in several phases. The first phase is expected to be completed by December. A map of the area was also available so that the nurses could check where their plots are located.
