Judiciary on recess

The judiciary is currently on recess which means that there will be no trials. The judiciary will only handle lawsuits during the recess period. The judiciary will start the new year on October 2. The judiciary handled several high profile cases in the year of session 2016-2017.

Romano Meriba was sentenced to three and a half years for the armed robbery of a local entreprene­ur on November 9, 2015. His accomplice­s were also given prison sentences. Anthony C was also sentenced to three and a half years and Errol S was sentenced to three years in prison.

KM, JO and FE, the Dutch rappers from Strictly Family Business, were found guilty of having committed sexual acts with an underage girl. All of the rappers were given suspended sentences.

Lowinso M a.k.a. King Koyeba was sentenced to 16 months in prison on a drug charge. He was also given a probation period of 3 years and a fine of SRD 500.

Soedier H was sentenced to 7 years in prison for having robbed and assaulted a family at Kwatta on February 21. Ramesh M was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend Naomi Dhanradj. The defendant had reportedly buried the body in his backyard. Sandjaikoe­mar T was sentenced to 13 years in prison for having killed a 27-year-old man who had to pay him SRD 40.

Delano D was sentenced to 12 years in prison. The defendant had reportedly chopped his neighbor to dead with a machete on August 30, 2015. Dimitrie M was sentenced to 25 years in prison for having murdered another man in Paramaribo. Anthony L (39) was sentenced to 26 years in prison for having sexually abused and infecting his 4 underage stepchildr­en with HIV.

Lloyd D was sentenced to 9 years in prison for the sexual abuse of 2 nieces and an underage girl who lived next door. Marlin D, the principal of a school in the Para District, was sentenced to 3 years and 3 months for the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old student. Dwight S was sentenced to 8 years in prison for the rape and extortion of a foreign intern in Paramaribo on January 7, 2016.
