Parliamentary delegation to visit China
“All expenses will be covered by China” The parliamentary commission on Foreign Affairs will leave for the People’s Republic of China to hold talks with its Chinese counterpart at the National People’s Congress. All of the expenses of the 7 members of the Surinamese delegation will be paid by the Chinese government. The delegation is expected to discuss the strengthening of parliamentary ties with regards to the One-China Policy that does not recognize Taiwan as an independent state but which deems it part of China. The Surinamese delegation also wants to discuss the growing number of subsidiaries of Chinese companies in Suriname. MP Andre Misiekaba (NDP), head of the delegation and chairman of the commission, pointed out that there are at least 20 big firms in Suriname that have China as their home base. The Surinamese legislators would like a platform to be created for these companies so that local authorities could hold talks with their representatives when discussing common interests. “A sort of Chamber of Commerce,” said MP Misiekaba who added that the objective is to discuss the existing joint ventures and the bottlenecks and what kind of improvements they would like.
The Surinamese delegation will reportedly be in China between September 14 until 24.
The members of the delegation are MP Andre Misiekaba (NDP), MP Chandrikapersad Santokhi (VHP), MP Grace Watamaleo (NDP),MP Gregory Rusland (NPS),MP Stephen Tsang (NDP),MP William Waidoe (PL) and MP Remy Tarnadi (NDP). “I would like to emphasize that all of the expenses will be covered by the People’s Republic of China,” said MP Misiekaba.
