International media applaud Belt and Road initiative
300 representatives from 265 media outlets located in 126 countries have been brought together in Dunhuang, China to discuss the role of the media regarding the Belt and Road initiative of President Xi Jingping. The media representatives also focused their attention on the effects of the internet on traditional media. A media forum on China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative kicked off in the Chinese city of Dunhuang, a key transit point in the ancient Silk Road, on Tuesday.
The ‘Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road’ is organized by the People’s Daily, China’s biggest daily newspaper group. The People’s Daily did not spare any efforts in assembling the representatives from media outlets from all over the world in China. The discussions and presentations were discussed at high level and have led to improvement of the insights into the way journalism currently works. Tips for traditional media outlets on how to handle popular internet reporting were also given at the media forum. The Belt and Road initiative was proclaimed by President Xi Jingping in 2013 and is being supported worldwide. It became clear at the media forum that the international world of journalism deems the plan of the Chinese leader as a good counterpart of the Western trade protectionism and the failing globalization attempts. Especially countries who always end up empty handed when it comes to initiatives that are managed by the West have welcomed this alternative that was proposed by China. To them it is a way out.
