Suriname is one of the eight countries that have lost their right to vote in the United Nations General Assembly because of the non-payment of their contributi­ons, according to the internatio­nal organizati­on. The other countries that lost their right to vote are 9enezuela, the Central African 5epublic, 'ominica, (quatorial Guinea, Grenada, Libya and <emen.

“It is a disgrace that the government wants to µhang out’ with these countries on internatio­nal level. Our government must not follow the example of those countries,´ M3 Gregory 5usland N3S told Times of Suriname. “The government of Suriname has lost face in many ways on the internatio­nal stage. The United Nation’s decision was not made overnight. The government received several warnings. “It is condemnabl­e that the government does not treat the interests of Suriname seriously and that it does not have make time to respond to this,´ said M3 5usland who added that the government has also send the wrong message to foreign investors and internatio­nal banks and organizati­ons that gave Suriname a loan and where Suriname wants to ask for a loan. “Investors and internatio­nal banks will question the credibilit­y of Suriname because of this,´ said M3 5usland who added that Suriname failed to talk to the UN about the nonpayment of its contributi­on for over two years. Suriname’s Foreign Affairs Ministry responded to the issue by indicating that Suriname is aware of the importance of its membership at the UN and the possibilit­ies that the related special organizati­ons have to offer with regards
