4 men on trial over rape: Woman used drugs before sex with 5 men

Defense Attorney Irvin Kanhai on Monday told the court that the 21-year-old woman who had initially claimed that she was raped, told the defense that she had used drugs to get high so that she could have sex with 5 men. Donovan F, Lorenzo B, Roche A and Raymon D are reportedly on trial over the rape of the 21-year-old woman.

Kanhai pointed out that the young woman has given a different picture of this case than the version that is mentioned in the dossier. The woman had agreed to have sex with 5 boys who had not paid her enough. “It was voluntary sex,” said the defense attorney who added that he wanted the young woman to take the witness stand.

Counselor-at-law Georgette Leter pointed out that the statements in the dossier are crystal clear but added that she has no objections if the woman wants to give a different statement. Counselor-at-law Therese Roos also agreed with the decision to let the woman take the witness stand. District Attorney Nirmala Maikoe pointed out that the victim has already given her testimony. The prosecutor also pointed out that the victim had previously told her that the families of the defendants had approached her for a talk. Kanhai asked the court to have the suspects released from police custody. He pointed out that it is mandatory for the judge to take everything into account. Judge Ingrid Lachitjaran rejected the request for the release of the defendants. Although the victim was in the building, the judge did not let her take the witness stand. The judge reportedly wants to prepare herself for the moment when the victim will take the witness stand. She had prepared herself for the questioning of the suspects on Monday. The defendants are scheduled to appear in court again on March 19.
