Murder suspects released from jail

-

32-year-old Urnando J (32) and 17-year-old Meredith P who were arrested last week over the death of policeman Wirindra Bhugwansingh in Kwatta were released from police custody on Tuesday. The suspects’ attorney, Georgette Leter, confirmed that her clients were no longer in jail.

The defense attorney had asked the court to release her clients. The suspects were released before the request was processed.

Urnando J and Meredith P were considered suspects in the case of the death of the 26-year-old policeman. Urmando J told the examining judge that he is innocent. He claims that he was busy in the kitchen when he heard a gunshot. He then turned around to see what had happened.

Leter pointed out that the facts and circumstances must also be reviewed. Urmando J was in the house but did not witness what had happened between the policeman and Meredith P. Leter also pointed out that the man should in fact not have been considered a suspect at all. Meredith P claimed that she had asked the policeman twice if the we- apon was loaded. When she saw the gun on the table, she wanted to touch it. Evidently there was still a bullet in the gun. Meredith P claimed that she tripped and fell. When she fell her hand hit the trigger and the gun went off, thereby fatally wounding the policeman.

Leter pointed out that Meredith P’s actions were not deliberate. “The policeman’s death was an accident,” said Leter who added that the policeman should have been more careful with his gun in roder to prevent such an incident.
