%us and boat owners who are members of the 2rganization of %us and %oat 2wners in 6uriname (2%6) will provide their services to the public today. The decision to guarantee school transport was made after a meeting between the 2%6 and Public Works, Transport and &ommunication (2%6) 0inister Patrick Pengel. %efore the (aster vacation the 2%6 had warned that school transport would not be guaranteed after the (aster vacation if its members had not received their money.

.enneth Themen, &hairman of the 2%6, pointed out that as usual the money was wired on the last day of the month and that the busdrivers had to wait a week and a half for their money. This is just one of the problems that were discussed at the meeting with 0inister Pengel. “We don¶t know why the money can¶t be wired sooner. When the money is wired late, it takes the bank a bit longer to process it which in turn creates problems for the bus- and boatowners,” said Themen who added that 0inister Pengel was asked to address the bank issue so that the union members can get their money sooner every month. $nother problem is that the agreement that was inked on -une 21 with the then Public Works 0inister -erry 0iranda clearly states that several things must be actualized within the next five years. Themen pointed out that not a single thing from the agreement has been actualized yet. The 2%6 made it clear that it is now up to 0inister Pengel to address the issue. The 2%6 is scheduled to meet 0inister Pengel again on $pril 27.
