The Guyana Gold %oard G%% has started the groundwork for the imple mentation of minted gold coins and ingots, allow ing persons to make certi fied purchases similar to what can be obtained in the 8nited 6tates and other countries. &hairman of the %oard, Gabriel /all, told Kaieteur News that the se nior managers are working closely with both local and foreign companies to design and be ready to deliver for approval various designs for considerat­ion and the asso ciated cost for production. /all revealed that the board is pursuing local input in the designs and would later rely on overseas companies for the production since Guyana doesn¶t have the capabiliti­es to undertake the minting of the coins. He said the 0inister of 1atural 5e sources, 5aphael Trotman, has given the board a man date to utili]e gold minted coins as a revenue earning for the board. According to /all, the 0anagement team of the Gold %oard has been moving to get something tangible to deliver.

0inister Trotman stated that Government envisions that the Gold %oard will move away from Must burning gold and shipping it overseas. “This year, we will be mov ing to producing commem orative coins and ingots so that people can come and buy gold as Guyanese. If I am a citi]en of &anada or visitor to &anada or the 8.6, I can go and buy gold and it comes with a certificat­e and a number. I believe that it¶s where we are heading”, Trotman stated.
