Betheljada needs donors

-

Betheljada, the shelter for people with complex multiple disabilities is currently seeking donors. It needs people who are willing to adopt the residents. The financial aid is essential especially given the intensive care that the shelter provides to this extremely vulnerable group.

Haidi Schakelaar told Times of Suriname that for the past three months the shelter has had the idea of seeking more donors because it only received 10% of the state subsidy in 2017. There are still several donors who come to the shelter’s aid from time to time. “In order to keep the shelter afloat, other creative solutions are being sought,” said Schakelaar. The shelter then came up with the idea of letting people adopt the residents financially. The Betheljada Foundation has room for about 40 residents. The residents are completely dependent on the care which means that they need help whenever they want to take a bath, eat and wear their clothes and disposable diapers. Betheljada needs SRD 4,500 per resident on a monthly basis. “Each donation is welcome,” said Schakelaar. The residents are between the ages 3 to 43. Some of them still have parents or relatives who visit them. Sometimes the relatives also donate money and sometimes they donate goods but sometimes there are no people who visit them. Betheljada pointed out that people can donate money by wiring money to its bank accounts at De Surinaamsche Bank. It has a bank account for Surinamese dollars namely 16.47.830 and for Euros namely 05.45.880.
