“Pastor was not violent towards police”
“Pastor Eheduwa J from a congegration located along the Nieuw Weergevondenweg did not behave violently towards the police on May 3 when they tried to arrest him. Contrary to what is being said, the clergyman never pushed a finger in the eye of a policeman during his arrest. Eheduwa J also did not rip the clothes of a policeman and never made any racist comments about the police chief,” said Nesta Parisius from the Association of Pentecostal Churches (VVEPS). Parisius explained that the results from an internal investigation that was launched by the VVEPS indicate that the pastor did not misbehave himself during his arrest. He also had not assaulted a police officer. Parisius pointed out that on the day in question 7 police officers went to the church after having received several noise complaints. The VVEPS pointed out that the brute actions of the police officers have traumatized the believers especially the children. The VVEPS explained that the reputation of the pastor has also been tainted irreparably. The association also pointed out that the image of the local congregation has also been tainted by the inaccurate reports. The VVEPS hopes that such police actions will never happen again within the community of believers who pray and work for the wellbeing of the nation and the people. The VVEPS made it clear that it expects an official apology from the head of the Police Force Suriname (KPS) and the minister of Justice and Police.
