More than 1,100 kilos of drugs destroyed
The police on Saturday set fire to drugs that had been seized. The police reportedly destroyed 625.5 kilograms of cocaine in solid form; 12,100 milliliter cocaine in liquid form; 556 kilograms of marijuana and 517.3 grams of crystal meth. Chief Inspector Retitia Forster, head of the Drug Eradication Division, pointed out that the drugs were intercepted and seized at the Johan Adolf Pengel (JAP) International Airport, a container at the Jules Sedney Harbor and in postal packages in the period February-June. Suspects were not apprehended in all these drug cases. “There are not always suspects on our radar the moment we confiscate drugs. Samples are sent to the Central Laboratory for testing. If the samples test positive, the green light is given to burn the drugs,” said Forster who added that the confiscated drugs are brought to the Narcotics Brigade. The various types of drugs are smuggled in various ways. “We have noticed that people try to smuggle drugs via the postal companies because it is not easy for them to smuggle it via the airport and the Jules Sedney Harbor,” said the chief inspector who added that the drug traffickers use fake ID cards which makes it hard to track them down. “The police are here to make sure that drugs are not smuggled into or out of the country. The police also arrest people on the streets who have drugs in their possession.
