Cops to exhume body that may be missing Rose Hall man’s remains

Detectives from Berbice hope that the body of an unknown man that was buried in 2015 may be a major clue in the disappeara­nce and suspected murder of 76-year-old Percival Johnson.

The victim was reportedly found with brown boots on and a black bicycle nearby. Some of Johnson’s relatives say the bicycle and footwear match items that belonged to the missing pensioner. Meanwhile, a grandson of Johnson’s and the grandson’s wife, who were held for Johnson’s disappeara­nce have been released on substantia­l station bail. Percival Johnson disappeare­d on April 13. It was only recently that the cold case was re-opened based on new informatio­n given by a relative, the new details led to the arrest of the man’s grandson and wife. “They are not admitting that they played a part in his disappeara­nce but they admitted to taking the money from the man after he went missing,” a senior police official said. Some 900,000 US dollars was reportedly taken from the missing man’s room. Percival Johnson who was 76 at the time of his disappeara­nce, lived at Lot 36 Sir David Street, Rose Hall Town with his grandson and grand daughter-in-law. The pensioner lived in the upper flat of the two storey wooden building while the couple lived in the bottom flat. According to reports, the elderly man left his home on April 13, 2015 and was never seen again. The grandson who stayed with him had reported his disappeara­nce to ranks at the Rose Hall Town Outpost. However, ranks reportedly received conflictin­g accounts about the last time that Johnson was last seen. Three years later, the step-daughter of Johnson made an appeal approached the police the police reopen the case after she reportedly received new informatio­n. Her concern led to the arrest last Wednesday of the missing man’s grandson and wife. (Kaieteur News)
