“I really wanted to visit France”

-

A court in France on Thursday sentenced a 22yearold woman and her mother to prison after finding them guilty of drug trafficking. The young woman was sentenced to 3 years in prison while her mother was sentenced to 5 years in prison. The two women were part of a gang of five people. All gang members have been convicted. Reports indicate that the woman accompanied her daughter to Paris and that they met a cousin at the airport of Orly in May, 2017. A couple that accompanied the cousin was also sentenced to prison. The then 21year –old woman who had reportedly swallowed 300 cocaine pellets took a flight from Suriname to Cayenne. Security footage shows her going to the toilet with her cousin and the two accomplices. During an interrogation, she confessed to having excreted 3 cocaine pellets in the toilet. The five suspects then went to the house of one of the accomplices where the woman pooped out the rest of the cocaine pellets. Investigators tracked down the suspects after the cousin was arrested during an attempt to smuggle cocaine to France later that year. The cousin told investigators that he had swallowed the drugs in Suriname and that he had reached France via French Guyana. During the course of the investigation investigators also zeroed in on the man’s relatives who he had welcomed at the airport in May 2017 and the couple that had accompanied him to the airport. The couple had reportedly paid for the ticket of the young woman. “It was a very difficult decision but I did it because I wanted to visit France,” the woman told the court.
