Blind people to gain access to modern technology

-

Blind people and people with poor eyesight will be given access to modern technology.

The National Foundation for the Blind (NSBS) will reportedly give this group of people the opportunity to educate themselves further with the help of a smart phone or laptop that will have special applications preinstalled on them. 15 people can already be given access to modern technology as there are currently 15 devices available. Eunika Zuylen, coordinator of the project, explained that the devices are very important to blind people and people with poor eyesight who attend classes at junior and senior high schools. The applications will enable them to do their homework in an easy manner. In order to get one of the devices the person must show that he or she needs it for school or for work. Every month the person will also be required to indicate what progress he or she has made because of the device.

Zuylen pointed out that the people who will be selected to receive one of the devices must sign an agreement with the NSBS. Each person will also be required to pay a small ‘compensation’ to the NSBS on a monthly basis. The money is necessary to cover the repairs of the device. The coordinator pointed out that a portion of the money will be put in a fund so that more devices can be purchased. The NSBS will also organize training sessions to people who can’t operate the devices optimally. Zuylen made it clear that the devices will remain the property of the NSBS for 3 years and until all payments have been made.
