Billboard collapse on 2 cars

-

A billboard that had been attached to the balcony of a monumental building collapsed on 2 cars on Thursday afternoon. A woman who had parked her car in front of the building that is loacted along the Domineestraat told Times of Suriname that she and a coworker had decided to park their cars there around 7 a.m. She usually parked in front of the building that has been vacant for many years. Around 12:30 she heard a loud bang and immediately thought that two cars had collided. The woman who works at one of the local stores did not go outside. But when her coworkers told her that something had fallen on her car, she rushed outside. The woman does not know the extent of the damage and how much it will cost her to cover the repairs and to pay for a new paint job. Firefighters were called to the scene of the accident but they left after they had notified the Environment Management Department. A security guard who works nearby told Times of Suriname that he was sitting in front of his workplace when the billboard came crashing down. He was relieved to hear that nobody had been injured. He is also glad that the collapse did not take place on December 31 when revelers flock to the inner city to watch the annual firecracker relay. He pointed out that many people would have been injured if it had happened on New Year’s Eve. Sources told Times of Suriname that the vacant bulding belongs to a senior citizen who is currently in poor health. The owners of the cars that were buried under the billboard do not know who they can hold liable for the damage.
