-

“I know that my wife is not my property”, said 44-yearold Stuart T who is being suspected of stabbing his wife with a knife in the Marowijne District on May 11. The defendant told the court that he still loves his wife. He then started to cry in court.

The defendant explained that there was a problem between him and his wife with whom he had been in a relation for 14 years. He started quarreling with the woman while he was holding a breadknife in his hand. He saw her talking on the phone so he asked her who she was talking to. The defendant claimed that the women was injured while they were wrestling. Stuart T insisted that the knife was in the kitchen and that he knows nothing about a knife being in the bedroom. The woman had reported her husband to the police over domestic abuse on several occasions. The woman had reportedly seen a knife in the bedroom on May 10. The next day she sent her child to the local store. She claimed that her husband came into the room and that he grabbed the knife before he started swinging it. The knife broke after it had pierced her right shoulder. The judge pointed out that the knife had been used with a lot of force which is why it broke. She also pointed out that the defendant had bitten the woman in her face and that he had punched her in the face several times. After the man had assaulted the woman, he grabbed her phone to find out whom she had been in contact with. The defendant is due back in court on January 21.
