Patients soon back on fifth floor AZP

-

Patients who were moved to the Military Hospital (MH) and other floors of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP) due to renovations at the AZP will be moved back to the fifth floor at the end of the month. The fifth floor which was reportedly closed for seven months was officially reopened on Monday in the presence of the nurses and government officials.

The project was

financed by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).

Claudia Marica-Redan, general director at the AZP, pointed out that renovating the fifth floor was not an easy task. Patients had to be moved to other floors and the Military Hospital which is located across the street from the nation’s biggest hospital. Redan explained that the renovations of the two wings on the fifth floor cost $ 880,000 each. 530 beds can be placed at the AZP and the hospital officials have already replaced 328 old beds with new ones. Now the hospital officials will start with the renovations on the fourth floor.

Finance Minister Gillmore Hoefdraad pointed out that he was proud of the fact that the first phase of the project is completed. He also added that Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, secretary general at the OFID, is very pleased with the way the project is going and that he has already given the green light for the rehabilitation of six surgery rooms. The minister pointed out that the entire rehabilitation project will cost $ 8.5 million in total. Health Minister Antoine Elias pointed out that the renovation of the fifth floor can be deemed as a milestone for the AZP.
