72 road deaths and counting

-

A moped driver became the 72nd road death for this year. It is suspected that the road victim was run over twice along the Magentakanaalweg on Thursday. The moped rider who died at the scene of the accident was hit by another moped before being hit by a car. The police had reportedly received a call about a collision between two mopeds. The other moped rider, CD, claimed that he and his girlfriend were riding along the Magentakanaalweg when he suddenly saw a moped that was parked on the left side of the road. The victim was reportedly leaning on his moped. CD could not avoid a collision. CD and his girlfriend suffered a few injuries. CD got up and asked the victim why he had parked recklessly especially given the fact that they were at a secluded location which did not have any streetlights. When the victim apologized, CD noticed that the other moped rider ‘produced’ a strong alcohol smell. CD helped the man to put his moped on the side of the road. CD could not ride his moped because his front wheel was crooked. He tried to stop a few cars but his attempts were futile. He then called a taxi company but could not give the driver his exact location. CD wanted to send his girlfriend home because their son was home alone. He hid his moped in the bushes before walking to the corner of the Magentakanaaland the Hanna’s Lustweg where he called a taxi. When he was in the taxi, they drove to the scene of the accident and spotted the victim lying on his back on the road. The victim’s moped was several meters from his body. CD then took his moped out of the bushes and parked it alongside the road. The investigation is ongoing.
