Narco sub trial:
Judge Maureen Dayala on Friday ordered the temporary release of three suspects who are facing drug trafficking charges. The Colombians Alonso V and Margarita B and the Cuban Mirabal G were released from jail. Gonzales C, Jeminez P, Luis R, Christian P and Albida B who also appeared in court on Friday were not released. When Mirabal G informed the judge that he had turned 40 on Friday, the judge congratulated him. “He is free to go and celebrate his birthday”, said Judge Dayala. The suspects hugged each other after they heard the good news. Margarita B hugged her sister, Albida B, while crying tears of joy. Dayala on Friday questioned 3 of the 8 suspects. The other suspects will take the witness stand on May 6. The judge made it clear to the 3 suspects that they must attend each trial. Defense Attorney Edward Redjopawiro told Times of Suriname that his client, Mirabal G, is not allowed to leave the country. Alonso V, Margarita B and Mirabal G denied any involvement in the construction of the narco submarine that was seized in the Saramacca District. They also denied any involvement in criminal activities in the districts Wanica, Saramacca and Coronie in 2017 and 2018.
