Schools in Mgr Wulfingstraat closed today

-

The Roman Catholic Education (RKBO) recently decided to keep its 5 schools that are located in the Mgr Wulfingstraat closed today. Desi Bouterse who I has been convicted in the December 8 trial is expected to appear in the Military Court today. Today there will be no classes at the Sint Paulusschool, the Sint Louiseschool, the Sint Elisabeth 1 and 2 and the Kathedrale Koorschool. A teacher from the Sint Paulusschool indicated that teachers were notified of the decision on Tuesday.

The tests that were scheduled to take place today will be moved to another date. Reports indicate that other trials that were scheduled to take place in the same court building located along the Mgr Wulfinghstraat have been postponed. Several defense attorneys confirmed that today’s trials have been cancelled and that they have been informed that they will be moved to another date. Several cases have been moved to February while others have been moved to March. One of the attorneys explained that the cases where the suspects are currently out on bail have been moved to March. Another attorney explained that the situation is a bit inconvenient for the suspects who are currently in police custody because it means that they will have to wait longer for the court to handle their case.

The Mgr Wulfingstraat was scheduled to be closed on both sides as of 5 a.m. This means that neither the public nor traffic will be allowed access. The Police Force Suriname (KPS) recently announced that traffic would be rerouted. The roadblocks are scheduled to be removed after the conclusion of the session of the Military Court. People are being urged to follow the instructions of the police and to cooperate so that the session of the Military Court can go smoothly.

“Do not get involved in situations which could lead to firm action being taken against you,” said the KPS in a press release. The KPS made it clear that it would continue to maintain law and order
