8 people in quarantine in Nickerie District

-

Eight people are currently in quarantine in the Nickerie District. Four of them are in home quarantine while the other four are in state quarantine. Three of the four people who are in state quarantine are Guyanese nationals who entered Suriname illegally via the backtrack. Nickerie District Commissioner Nisa Kurban-Baboe told Times of Suriname that the head of the regional office of the Public Head Bureau (BOG) in Nickerie had been asked to screen the three illegal immigrants. After the head of the BOG’s regional office in Nickerie had consulted his superiors in Paramaribo, the National Coordination Center for Disaster Control (NCCR), RGD Nickerie and the police, it was decided that the illegal immigrants would be put in state quarantine. Two of them were arrested by the police while the third one was staying with his mother in the Groot

Henar Polder. Officials also put the suspect’s mother in state quarantine as a precaution. DC Kurban-Baboe applauded the district’s residents for keeping an eye on things because local residents had informed the authorities that a foreigner had popped up in their neighborhood. The foreigner in question had moved in with his mother after having entered the country illegally. The other two suspects who were arrested were reportedly in possession of a quantity of marihuana. Both suspects claimed that they did not know anything about the drugs. Two other people who had also been spotted by local residents were put in home quarantine. The couple was staying with two people who are the parents of one of them. All four people were placed in home quarantine.
