AZP beefs up rules for visiting ER

-

The nation’s biggest hospital, the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP), has decided to beef up its rules for visiting its Emergency Room (SEH) in order to prevent patients and visitors from getting infected with the novel coronavirus, COVID19. The AZP explained that it has seen an increase in the number of cases at its ER. People who need to go to the ER are required to cover their nose and mouth. If they do not comply with this rule, they will not be allowed to enter the ER.

The ER will only treat urgent cases. People are being advised to contact their family doctor when they do not require urgent medical care. People with flu symptoms are expected to stay home and to call their family doctor or 178. The management team at the AZP made it clear that visitors of patients will not be allowed at the ER. The visitors can leave the goods that they want to deliver to patients behind at the office of the security guards. People who escort patients to the ER must also stay behind at the main gate. The ambulance will only respond to trauma and emergency cases. The paramedics will subject each patient to a COVID-19 screening to determine the seriousness of the patient’s condition. Each patient who needs to be picked up by an ambulance must also cover his or her mouth and nose except when he or she has been involved in an accident or when he or she is suffering from shortness of breath.
