Exam candidates to attend classes again on July 6

-

Natasha Bennanon, director at the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (OWC), on Friday announced that classes for exam candidates at all education levels would resume on July 6. The Education director pointed out that the ministry has given clear instructions to the schools regarding the COVID-19 precautionary measures that must be implemented. She assured parents that the students would be safe at school and urged them to make sure that their children cover their nose and mouth. The exam candidates at the primary school will attend classes from 8 am until noon. The state exams for 6th graders will take place on August 3 and 4. The 6th graders will only get state exams on 4 subjects namely comprehension, general linguistic knowledge, mental arithmetic and mathematics. For this year history, geography and science will be scrapped. The exam candidates who attend classes at secondary education junior level (mulo) will also be in the classrooms from 8 am until noon. These students will also get state exams on the subjects that determine to which high school they can go after they graduate. The students at the mulo schools will take the state exams on August 5, 6 and 7.

Director Benannon explained that the classes at the high schools start at 7 am and end on 1 pm because they have more subjects. The state exams at the high schools will take place from July 23 until August 6.

All the other students will get a final mark that is calculated by diving the total of the marks from the 1st semester with those of the second semester. The summer vacation starts on August 1 and ends on August 31. The new school year will start on September 1.
