President Santokhi: “We will solve the crisis”

-

“We will solve the crisis. We will put our shoulders under the work,” said President Chandrikapersad Santokhi in his inauguration speech. Despite the situation that he and his administration will encounter, the new head of state is confident that everything will be alright. Everybody in Suriname is expected to make the necessary efforts and to make the necessary sacrifices. “Today I stand before you on the square. I stand here as your new president with the task of doing the work. Together we will make sure that each countryman will know better times. We want honesty, progress and a happy nation. The elections are over. Regardless of the political parties that we support, we all want things to be better in this country. That is why all political differences are unimportant. We have the same goal. And I invite everybody to help me and the new team of ministers to work together and to achieve our goal of achieving progress in Suriname,” said the newly elected head of state. President Santokhi pointed out that many things will be done. Jobs will be created, semi governmental companies will be privatized and actual steps will be taken to diversify the economy. We will also bring balance in the budget, introduce an exchange rate that is in accordance with the market situation and there will also be a better import policy. Drug and cross-border crime will also be tackled. Santokhi thanked former president Desi Bouterse and his administration for their efforts during the past 10 years. “I thank them for the cooperation for the smooth transition of one administration to another,” said President Santokhi.
