Rise in COVID-19 cases due to tests

-

The Ministry of Health indicated that a third of the people who get tested for COVID19 test positive for the novel cornavirus. “A month ago less than 1,000 people took the test and now about 2,000 people get tested for COVID19,” said the ministry which claimed that the drastic rise is the result of the fact that a growing number of people get tested. “These past few weeks Suriname

has been shocked by the drastic rise in the number of people who tested positive for COVID19. The number of deaths has also struck fear in the hearts of the people. The Regionaal Ziekenhuis Wanica is currently full of COVID19patients. The hospital’s morgue is also full. COVID19 patients who require hospital care are also being admitted to the , Sint Vincentius Ziekenhuis, ‘s Lands Hospitaal and the Diakonessenhuis. If the situation does not improve, the hospital care for other patients will be at risk. We can only prevent this disastrous development if we stick to the measures which means no gatherings, no parties, no weddings, no funerals and closing night clubs, bars and dance clubs. Citizens of Suriname do not put your health and that of others at risk. Stick to the measures: cover your mouth and nose escpecially when entering rooms, remain at a distance of 1.5 meter and stay away from the street except when you have to go to work , school or essential shopping. Do not stand in groups. Citizens keep in mind that your behavior determines if the number of infections will rise or drop.”
