More than 20 people attend Pique’s rally

-

The rally that was organized by Sibrano Pique on Friday was attended by more than 20 people. The protestors assembled at the Church Square before walking to the Independence Square. Pique and his supporters also made it clear that the fuel price hike and the unification of the exchange rate are unbearable. “Lower the exchange rate.” “We are dying.” “Cancel the fuel price hike.” “Life has become hard in the hinterland.” These are the messages that were written on the signs of the protestors. Pique made it clear that he is not against the current government but that he does not agree with the measures and the hikes which are making it difficult for citizens to make ends meet.

“Government, do not make the same mistakes as the previous government. The government must keep its promises and get back the stolen money. The government must be transparent in its policy. Where is your action plan? You would bring change. You would rake in diaspora funds,” said the activist who openly admitted to being a member of the NDP and who added that “I am disappointed in this political party.” “I am not the only one and that is why the community chose for another team.” Pique disapproved with the measures and hikes. “Exceeding the loan ceiling, exchange rate hike, fuel price hike, going to the IMF. The government has accused its predecessors of all these things. It seems as if the government is punishing the people because they did not choose them sooner. The Santokhi administration is making the same mistakes that the Bouterse administration has made for the past 10 years,” said Pique.
