-

The election workers who worked on Election Day, May twentyfifth 2020, will get paid from December 15 until December 24. The Ministry of Finance and Planning has already put aside about SRD 50 million for these payments. The Ministry of Home Affairs (BIZA) announced this news in Congress Hall on Friday. Statistics indicate that there are about 17,000 election workers. The director at the Ministry of Home

Affairs, Mohamad Eskak, explained that some of the election workers will receive their money in their bank accounts while the rest and in this case the ones who reside in the hinterland will receive cash in their hands via the nation’s District Commissioner’s Offices.

Home Affairs Minister Bronto Somohardjo thanked Finance and Planning Minister Armand Achaibersing for his tireless efforts to get the funds without having to take a loan and he also thanked Regional Development and Sports Minister Gracia Emanuel for her cooperation. Minister Somohardjo explained that it took a bit longer to make the payments due to the financial mess that was left behind by the previous government. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi and Vice President Ronnie Brunswijk kept their promise to make the payments happen. The minister pointed out that organizing the elections is not an easy task and that it is a team effort of various institutes that are mentioned in the law. He also pointed out that he is not discontent with the last elections. Minister Somohardjo explained that the ministry is currently in the post election phase and that the activities of this year’s general elections are being evaluated.
