Rusland asks NPS supporters to be patient

-

Gregory Rusland, the reelected chairman of coalition party NPS, recently asked the party’s members and supporters to be patient. Many people within the National Party Suriname (NPS) are discontent with the drastic price hikes in retail stores and the high cost of living. A few board members of the NPS have already expressed their dissatisfaction in public on several occasions.

Rusland made it clear that he is not blind to these issues. “But you must realize and we must repeat that for the past ten years we had a government that destroyed the country. And when you start running a broken country, it will take time to carry out repairs,” said the NPS chairman. Although Rusland was recently reelected, there is tremendous pressure on him to let his voice be heard within the government. Rusland made it clear that “I also do not agree with all the decisions that are made.” The NPS therefore wants to have a bigger say. Rusland explained that the government has to pay off a huge debt and that this is a top priority. He was recently appointed state advisor of President Chan Santokhi and has been tasked with addressing the nation’s housing issue.
