Northern part of Paramaribo once again a COVID-19 hot zone

The northern part of Paramaribo is once again a COVID-19 hot zone. About 20 new COVID-19 infections have been reported per day in the past couple of days and most of the infections happened in the northern part of Paramaribo where mainly Brazilian nationals reside and work. Most Brazilians illegally cross the river on their way from French Guiana to Suriname to visit relatives around this time of the year. Then there are also

Brazilians who work in the gold mining fields and return to the capital before the turn of the year. The reports indicate that the infected people came in contact with infected people in the same areas in Paramaribo-North.

The infected people visited cambios, hotels, restaurants and other places. The investigations are ongoing. The Public Health Bureau (BOG) will soon establish a mobile swab unit in ParamariboNorth again.
