Fire Department recommends use of safety goggles

-

The Fire Department Suriname (KBS) has once again recommended the use of safety goggles when people want to light fireworks or firecrackers. Fire Department Spokesman Olton Pinas told Times of Suriname that people can put on safety goggles or safety glasses to protect their eyes. Many eye injuries are reported annually around this time of the year. That is why it is important for people to opt for safety goggles. “We are urging the people to be responsible for their own safety,” said Pinas who added that it is also important to follow the other safety rules when one wants to light fireworks. The Fire Department is also urging everybody to refrain from throwing fireworks at each other and to also refrain from lighting fireworks in the vicinity of hospitals and places of worship. “Do not throw fireworks at animals and keep in mind when it is allowed to light fireworks. Fireworks may only be lit from December 27 until January 1. Use incense to light fireworks. There is no such thing as children’s fireworks.”
