Saramacca starts with retail price inspections

-

The district commissioner of Saramacca, Sherin BansiDurga, and MP Radjendre Debie have decided to establish a team that will inspect the retail stores in this district to make sure that the prices of 30 basis goods remain at the legal level. The team will carry out its inspections in association with the residents of the Saramacca District. The inspectors of this team will inspect the stores and supermarkets on a weekly basis. The prices of the basic goods in each resort of this district will be put on the Facebook page of the Citizen Information Center (BIC) of Saramacca. Consumers can then decide for themselves where they want to go shopping and they can also place their comments on the website. Employees at the Administration Department of Saramacca are currently being trained by the Economic Control Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Technological Innovation.

The DC and the MP hope that this plan will trigger retailers to compete with each other by adjusting their profit margins and keeping retail prices at an affordable level.

Debie explained that the price of the USD must remain stable for at least six months in order for the retail price of basic goods to remain stable too. The DC promised that she would make sure that this pilot project would become a success.
