RBT-Paramaribo arrests fugitive

A man who on Friday afternoon managed to escape from police custody in the waiting room of a police station in Paramaribo was arrested shortly afterwards. Officers from the Regional Support Team Paramaribo (RBT-Paramaribo) reportedly arrested the fugitive at his home address located along the Engelbrechtweg. The suspect had been handcuffed to a chair at the police station but managed to free himself before escaping. Sources told Times of Suriname that the man who is a repeat offender had been arrested on a theft charge. After he had escaped from the police station, he took a boat to cross the river and reach his home which is located in the Commewijne District.
