Suriname receives US dollar shipment

The efforts to lift the shortage of American dollars will be strengthened with the arrival of the first shipment of foreign currency in Suriname this week. Officials hope that the shipments will enable them to get the price of foreign currency under control. Finance and Planning Minister Armand Achaibersing

explained that Suriname should receive a shipment of dollars in cash from the United States of America at least once a week thanks to the intervention of the Federal Reserve (FED). Due to strategic reasons the minister was reluctant to divulge how much money has arrived in Suriname. “I can assure you that they are substantial figures.” The Finance minister explained that the money does not come from the FED. “We exchanged Euros for US dollars. The system is also aimed at exchanging electronic dollars for cash dollars.”
