The forward is serving a ban after receiving an intravenous treatment at an LA clinic in December 2016 when he was playing for Sevilla on loan from City. Nasri was initially banned for six months but that was subsequently increased to 18 months. He played in Turkey prior to the ban being extended. Nasri spent three years at Arsenal between 2008 and 2011 but enjoyed most success at City where he won the league twice and also the League Cup.

But the Merseyside club are in need of an extra creative player to back up the likes of the Brazilian Richarlison and Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson.
