...SPORTS COUNCIL SEEKS ANSWERS

The Swaziland National Sport and Recreation Council (SNSRC) has demanded answers from the athletics mother body on damning reports following the said irregularities on the selection of athletes for this month’s Region 5 Under20 Youth Games in Botswana.

ATHLETICS –

Through Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Darius Dlomo, the council called upon the Athletics Association of Eswatini (AAE) to explain the issue following a report carried by this publication.

In its response, AAE reportedly stated that they made the selection based on age.

They highlighted that athletes selected for the game would have to be within the age limit as stipulated by the specific competition, in this case, Under-20 and performance.

“I think the team selected is the best under the circumstances. We are behind them and we are trying our best to get them there compete at their best. We don’t just pick athletes from the air with some kind of thumb suck. These athletes are in the age bracket and some of them competed in the continental and World Youth Championships this year. They also have been consistent in local competitions. It is in that regard that we believe they need our backing,” said AAE President Gideon Mthembu.
