Judo pres­i­dent praises ath­letes ef­forts at Re­gion 5 games

Ju­dokas Sipho Langa and Mitchell Sten were un­for­tu­nate not to pro­ceed to the next stages of their in­di­vid­ual bouts after crash­ing in the tour­na­ment.

Langa was ousted in the quar­ter­fi­nal of the man 73k while Shen was stopped dead in her tracks in the fe­male 63kg semi-fi­nals of the on-go­ing Youth Games in Gaborone, Botswana.

Team Eswa­tini As­sis­tant Gen­eral Team Man­ager Du­misani Nti­wane con­firmed the de­vel­op­ments yes­ter­day. He how­ever stated that not all was lost as the team would to com­pete in the mixed pairs of the

tour­na­ment.

Mean­while Eswa­tini Judo Fed­er­a­tion (EJF) Pres­i­dent Princess Tho­lile ap­plauded the ef­forts that the judo team put in dur­ing the games. “Our fighters have to be praised for mak­ing it as far as they did in the re­gional com­pe­ti­tion. I feelthey gave it their best de­spite com­ing up short in the end.

“Coun­tries like Zim­babwe and the Sey­chelles are known for pro­duc­ing strong play­ers. How­ever, they did not do so well this time around when com­pared to us as we made it to the semis and quar­ter fi­nals in our re­spec­tive cat­e­gories and for that our team should be com­mended,” she said.
