Bronze medal for Eswatini in Region V games
STeam Eswatini erupted in unbridled joy yesterday as judoka Michelle Shen won the country its first medal in the ongoing Region 5 Games in Gaborone, Botswana.
Shen was competing in the mixed category Under-63kg and defied the odds after felling an Angola opponent to bring back home the medal and the first for the travelling side.
Team Eswatini Assistant General Manager Dumisani Ntiwane could not hide his delight at Shen's achievement
"She has made us so proud as a country and we take a bow for her. However, I think this is just a first of many to come from this team. All the athletes are giving it their best shot and this team is still going to cause people so many problems, “Ntiwane said.
Meanwhile, Ntiwane disclosed t hat t he eagerly anticipated encounter in ladies football pitting Eswatini against South Africa was cancelled with only 36minutes played.
"A heavy downpour ensured that the clash was called off. It had been hot since were arrived here so it was bound to rain. The game will now be replayed tomorrow (today)," he said.
