2 Asian na­tion­als ar­rested for fraud

TWO Asian na­tion­als have been ar­rested and charged for al­legedly de­fraud­ing the Eswa­tini Cit­i­zen Board mem­ber Paul Sha­bangu, by un­law­fully ob­tain­ing cer­tifi­cates of reg­is­tra­tion as ci­ti­zens of Eswa­tini.

Hy­der Ahmed (male aged 30) and Kan­wal Sh­agufta (fe­male 37) both of Mat­sapha, Magevini area were both ar­rested and charged for three dif­fer­ent of­fences. The first charge be­ing fraud. It is said on Jan­uary 20, 2016 at Mba­bane in the Hho­hho re­gion, they un­law­fully and with in­tent thereby to de­fraud, mis­rep­re­sented to the Eswa­tini Cit­i­zen­ship Board un­der home af­fairs. They at­tained through mis­rep­re­sen­ta­tion two doc­u­ments, an author­ity kukhonta to is­sue cer­tifi­cate of dated kukhonta Au­gust 30, 2006 and cer­tifi­cate of no 1051. They also sub­mit­ted some doc­u­ments know­ing well that they had been forged.

The Pak­ista­nis’ last charge is that of con­tra­ven­ing sec­tion 23 of the Eswa­tini Cit­i­zen­ship Act of 1992, by mak­ing false state­ments to the cit­i­zen­ship board for the pur­pose of procur­ing cer­tifi­cates of reg­is­tra­tion as ci­ti­zens of the king­dom and there by con­tra­vened the said Act.

Yes­ter­day, they ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Si­fiso Vi­lakati. When they were in­formed about their rights to le­gal rep­re­sen­ta­tion, both ac­cused per­sons said they would seek the ser­vices of an at­tor­ney to rep­re­sent them in the mat­ter.

The crown then ap­plied for a trial date, which was set on July 20, 2018.
