2 Asian nationals arrested for fraud
TWO Asian nationals have been arrested and charged for allegedly defrauding the Eswatini Citizen Board member Paul Shabangu, by unlawfully obtaining certificates of registration as citizens of Eswatini.
Hyder Ahmed (male aged 30) and Kanwal Shagufta (female 37) both of Matsapha, Magevini area were both arrested and charged for three different offences. The first charge being fraud. It is said on January 20, 2016 at Mbabane in the Hhohho region, they unlawfully and with intent thereby to defraud, misrepresented to the Eswatini Citizenship Board under home affairs. They attained through misrepresentation two documents, an authority kukhonta to issue certificate of dated kukhonta August 30, 2006 and certificate of no 1051. They also submitted some documents knowing well that they had been forged.
The Pakistanis’ last charge is that of contravening section 23 of the Eswatini Citizenship Act of 1992, by making false statements to the citizenship board for the purpose of procuring certificates of registration as citizens of the kingdom and there by contravened the said Act.
Yesterday, they appeared before Magistrate Sifiso Vilakati. When they were informed about their rights to legal representation, both accused persons said they would seek the services of an attorney to represent them in the matter.
The crown then applied for a trial date, which was set on July 20, 2018.
