Government wants Emaswati to renew their birth certificates
EMASWATI are advised to immediately renew their old birth certificates to the new ones that have pins for a deadline yet to be set.
Ministry of Home Affairs’ Registrar of Birth, Marriage and Death certificates official Mpumelelo Sibeko said changing to the new birth certificates would benefit owners.
“In the unlikely event of a loss, they can go to any centre in the country and re-apply for a new one by only providing their PINs as their information would have been saved automatically,” said Sibeko.
The purpose of changing the certificates was to decrease inconveniences and tediousness, in terms of using the old certificate, whereby the new ones have pins on them. It is to also ensure that a person’s information is quickly accessed anywhere in the country, especially in situations whereby an individual doesn’t have their certificate in hand, but know their PIN by heart.
Sibeko said when lost, the old certificates required a lot of work because the owner has to return to the service centre where they had it first made, have an officer look into old files for details as they were saved manually and that alone inconveniences both the client and officer as time and resources are wasted.
In some occasions, some are said to not even know or could not recall when and where their birth certificates were made because parents who applied for the certificates have passed on or any other unforeseen circumstances thus slowing down the whole process of having a new birth certificate immediately compared to when there was a PIN available. For that, everyone is urged to convert their old-birth certificates to new ones whilst there is still time.
