Send maintenance money to our accounts – Baby mamas

Swazi Observer - - NATIONAL NEWS - By Sifiso Nhlabatsi

BABY mamas who have had enough of being turned back at the Manzini Magistrate’s Court whenever they go to collect child maintenance cheques, have suggested that maybe it is about time that the money is deposited straight into their bank accounts.

This was expressed by angry women yesterday at the Manzini magistrate’s courts after they were informed that they could not access their cheques, hence they must go back home and come back the following day.

The angry women made it clear that they come from far-away places and some of them do not even have the money for transport for the up and down trips to the magistrate’s courts every day.

After spending the whole of yesterday queuing at the magistrate’s court, some of the women eventually gave up hope of receiving their cheques and went back home emptyhanded.

However, some were adamant and made it clear that they were not going anywhere until they received their cheques. Efforts to convince the women that they will not be getting anything proved futile as they camped at the magistrate’s court until means were made later in the day and they eventually received the cheques.

Those who received the cheques said they were not happy about the treatment they received whenever they visited the magistrate’s courts. They said it is about time that government considers other means of distributing the cheques.

They said it would be much better if they could be allowed to open bank accounts, where the money can be taken straight from the Treasurer into the accounts.

They said such would be hustlefree and will also save money because they will not have to travel to Manzini every time they want to collect child maintenance money.
